Why I’m running

Local leadership that stays focused on the classroom.

My commitment to Katy ISD became personal while tutoring a friend’s sixth-grade son who was struggling in math and reading. I saw dedicated teachers working hard while stretched systems, large class sizes, and overloaded intervention resources made it difficult to close every gap.

I am a nonprofit executive, business leader, education advocate, community volunteer, and Katy ISD KEYS mentor. I bring experience in board governance, budgeting, strategic planning, youth services, and building partnerships across communities.

The board’s job is governance, accountability, and stewardship, not micromanagement.

Three clear priorities

A decision test for every vote.

Is it good for students? Does it support teachers and staff? Is it a responsible use of taxpayer dollars?

Teachers first

Support the people who make learning possible

Recruit and retain excellent educators through competitive compensation, professional respect, discipline support, manageable systems, and a real voice in district decisions.

  • Protect classroom priorities
  • Listen to educators year-round
  • Improve working conditions

Students at the center

Measure what matters for every student

Set high expectations while making sure strong district averages do not hide gaps in literacy, mathematics, special education, or campus outcomes.

  • Focus on early literacy
  • Track mathematics readiness
  • Expand career pathways

Families at the table

Respect parents and individual family choices

Give families clear information, meaningful choices, and a direct voice without allowing one family or political group to decide for everyone else.

  • Proactive communication
  • Transparent materials
  • Protect student privacy

The work ahead

Specific priorities. Measurable results.

The question is not whether a policy makes a good headline. The question is whether it produces better results for students.

Academic outcomes

Expect measurable gains in early literacy, mathematics, and every student group.

Responsible budgeting

Review operations carefully and keep as much funding as possible close to the classroom.

Discipline and safety

Enforce existing rules consistently, fairly, and with due process for every student.

Career pathways

Strengthen skilled trades, credentials, entrepreneurship, and employer partnerships.

Parent rights and reading

Support parental access, age-appropriate materials, and opt-out choices for each family.

Special education

Watch staffing, evaluation timelines, service delivery, and measurable student progress.

Policy, not performance

Ask hard questions in public, decide from evidence, then provide stability after the vote.

Listening all year

Create regular conversations with teachers, staff, families, students, and taxpayers.

Outcomes over headlines

Measure success through student progress, teacher retention, responsible spending, and clear reporting.

Straight answers

Frequently asked questions

What does a school board trustee actually do?

A trustee sets vision and policy, adopts the budget, hires and evaluates the superintendent, and holds the system accountable. The board should not micromanage campuses or operate as district administration.

What does ‘teachers first’ mean in practice?

It means protecting teacher compensation and classroom resources, improving discipline support and daily working conditions, and creating regular ways for educators to speak directly with district leadership.

How will David approach the district budget?

David supports an independent, granular operational efficiency review on a recurring cycle. Responsible savings should be redirected toward classrooms, teacher retention, and student services.

What is David’s position on parent rights and library materials?

Parents should be able to see what their child is reading and opt their own child out. Materials must also comply with Texas law, district policy, and age-appropriate placement.
